Elkhart--- An auto repair shop in Elkhart was heavily damaged by an early-morning fire on Friday.
Crews were called to Topline Auto Repair in the 200-block of Oakwood Avenue just before 4 a.m. The building was engulfed in flames.
The shop had a living area attached to it on the west side, but fortunately, a woman inside got out and called 9-1-1.
"No injuries to civilians or firefighters, thank God,” said Chief Antonio Balzano of the Elkhart Fire Department. “There were 2 dogs and a cat inside the living structure. We were able to get the 2 dogs out. I am unaware of the cat right now.”
